How to Change Font in Discord

There is no font setting in Discord. Not in user settings, not behind Nitro, not in server settings. The typeface is gg sans, it is baked into the client, and no plan changes it. That is the honest answer to the question and it is worth stating before any workarounds.

What you can change is the characters themselves. Unicode contains whole alphabets that look like other typefaces — bold, italic, gothic, monospace, script — so pasting those characters produces the appearance of a different font without touching a single setting.

Two other things get called “changing the font” and they are worth separating. Chat Font Scaling under Appearance changes how large messages render, for you only. Client modifications such as BetterDiscord and Vencord can genuinely replace the interface typeface, but they patch the official client, which Discord’s Terms of Service prohibit, and they carry a risk of account action.

How to use it

  1. 01

    Generate the styled characters

Type your text into the generator above and copy the style you want. This is the only method that works on an unmodified Discord client and that other people actually see.

  2. 02

Paste into the field you want to change

Display names and nicknames are under Edit Profile. Role and channel names are under Server Settings. Messages simply take a paste. The unique username field will reject styled characters.

  3. 03

Change the size, not the font, in Appearance

If what you actually want is larger text, open User Settings → Appearance and raise Chat Font Scaling. That changes rendering for your eyes only; nobody else sees any difference.

Frequently asked questions

Can you change the font in Discord?

Not through any setting. Discord uses its own typeface, gg sans, and offers no font picker on any plan including Nitro. The only way to change how text looks is to use Unicode characters that are drawn differently, which is what a generator produces.

Does Discord Nitro let you change fonts?

No. Nitro covers avatar and banner customisation, higher upload limits, larger emoji and better streaming quality. The typeface is not part of it, and no subscription tier exposes a font option anywhere in the client.

Is BetterDiscord or Vencord safe to use for fonts?

They do change the interface font, because they patch the Discord client. Discord’s Terms of Service prohibit modified clients, so using them risks account action, and they break whenever Discord ships an update. Unicode characters carry no such risk.

How do I make Discord text bigger?

User Settings → Appearance → Chat Font Scaling changes the size of messages in your own client. It affects only what you see. To make text appear larger to everyone else, use wide characters such as fullwidth letters.

Why can I not change the font in one channel?

Font settings, where they exist at all, are global to your client, so a single channel cannot have its own typeface. You can style the channel name itself with Unicode characters so it stands out in the sidebar for everyone.
