Discord Italics Font
Discord has no italic setting, but it does have italic characters. The styles below are real Unicode letters from the mathematical alphanumeric block, so they paste into a nickname or a message and stay italic everywhere Discord renders text — desktop, mobile and browser alike.
Italic is one of the safer choices for a Discord name. The letterforms are slanted rather than replaced, so they stay close to the shapes people already read, and they survive being quoted, forwarded, or read aloud by a screen reader far better than the heavily decorated styles.
Worth knowing before you paste: Discord’s message box may show what you typed in its own font while you are still composing. That is the composer preview, not a failure — send the message and the italic characters appear as intended.

How to use it
- 01
Type your text
Enter the name or sentence you want in italic in the box above. Every style updates as you type, so there is nothing to submit or download.
- 02
Pick an italic style
Plain Italic is the most readable. Bold Italic adds weight for headings, and Script is the cursive option — prettier, but a few capitals are decorative enough to be hard to read at small sizes.
- 03
Copy and paste
Hit Copy, then paste with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V. For a nickname, open the server, choose Edit Profile and paste into the nickname field. For a message, paste into the box and send.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make text italic in Discord?
Either wrap it in single asterisks — Discord renders *text* as italic in messages — or paste Unicode italic characters from the generator above. The markdown route is quicker but only works in messages; the Unicode route also works in nicknames and server names.
Do italic fonts work in Discord usernames?
They work in display names and server nicknames, which is where most people want them. The unique username field is far stricter about unusual characters and tends to reject or normalise them, so it is safest to leave that one in plain text.
Why does my italic text look normal while I type?
Discord’s composer sometimes renders pasted text in the default interface font. The characters are still italic — send the message, or look at your profile preview, and they appear correctly.
Which italic style is easiest to read?
Plain Italic, followed by Bold Italic. Script and Bold Script are cursive enough that lowercase letters lose some of their distinguishing strokes, which makes them harder to skim in a busy channel or at Discord’s smaller font sizes.
