Fonts for Your Discord Name
A Discord name is really three different fields, and they behave differently. Your display name is the one shown everywhere, your server nickname overrides it inside one server, and your unique username is the handle people type to add you. Styled characters belong in the first two.
The username field is the exception, and it is worth being blunt about it. It is designed to be unique and typeable, so it rejects or silently normalises characters that are not plain letters, digits, periods or underscores. Pasting styled text there usually fails, reverts, or gets stripped on save. Leave it plain.
For display names and nicknames the constraint that matters is length. Discord caps a nickname at thirty-two characters, and no style changes the character count — one styled letter is still one character. Pick the style you like on looks alone, not on the assumption that one is more compact.

Open a server, choose Edit Profile, and paste into the Display Name or Nickname field. Avoid the Username field entirely — it will reject the styled characters.

Will a styled name stop people from mentioning me?
No. Mentions work from the underlying account rather than the display text, so autocomplete and @-mentions still find you. People typing your name by hand will have a harder time of it, though, which is worth weighing if you want to stay easy to reach.
